Eton College, Windsor

Waverley Orange & Guestling Red Bricks with Grey Glazed Headers

Handmade Bricks for the Restoration and Development of Eton College

Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is one of Britain’s most historic educational institutions and today is home to around 1,300 students.

Sussex Handmade Brick worked with CSK Architects and All Brick and Stone to supply 30,000 handmade bricks for a project combining the sympathetic restoration of an existing listed building with the creation of a new visitor entrance.

With work taking place at the heart of the historic college, the choice of materials was important in ensuring the new and restored elements remained in keeping with their established surroundings. Sussex Handmade Brick supplied a carefully selected combination of Waverley Orange and Guestling Red bricks, alongside a variety of purpose-made brick specials

The project also incorporated Grey Glazed Headers, providing distinctive detailing while responding sensitively to the character and architectural heritage of the existing buildings.

Together, the selected bricks and specials helped create a consistent relationship between the restoration work and the new visitor entrance, allowing modern additions to sit comfortably within the historic setting and reflect the grandeur associated with Eton College.
